What is a wear layer?

What is a wear layer?

A wear layer is a thick, top, clear coating that protects luxury vinyl flooring from scratches and scuffs; it even helps to keep spills from absorbing. You will hear that term a lot when shopping because it is a vital component of luxury vinyl's durability; that is just one of the many benefits of this product. It would not be easy to find something that offers so much value for the decorating dollar.

Strong enough for kids, pets, and the heaviest foot traffic

Luxury vinyl (LVF) is five times thicker than the original product, and it is layered with a top melamine wear surface; on top of that is a clear urethane finish that provides extra strength and shine. True LVF should measure in thickness of 8-mm to 12-mm, and wear layers are measured separately, with the most robust one being 20-mils thick.

LVF is also 100% waterproof, made of waterproof materials (like vinyl), which makes the capability inherent; it needs no special coatings to help it. In addition, LVF is impervious from bottom to top, meaning it can be submerged or spilled on; wipe it dry and reuse it!

Affordable style–for every room in the house

When you come into Karrianna Flooring, you'll be amazed at what you see because it may be different from anything you remember from decades past. LVF has nature-inspired, true-to-life images of wood, stone, and tile, taken with high-definition photography and micro beveling and embossing to add depth, dimension, and textured looks.

Adding even more to the realism, it can be cut into strips and mounted on boards to mimic hardwood, called luxury vinyl plank, or in groutable square tile-sized pieces called a luxury vinyl tile. While the vinyl plank is mainly associated with hardwood and the squares with stone or tile, many use LVP and LVT interchangeably. Some prefer plank with its large format and few seams, while others for wood look tiles.

LVF is also low maintenance, requiring only regular sweeping and periodic mopping. Installation is easy, too, especially when it becomes a floating floor which is click, mat, and hover.
